Physical Therapist
Rafael Perez Jr., a first-generation McAllen native raised in Edinburg, is a dedicated Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) deeply committed to advancing healthcare accessibility and quality in the Rio Grande Valley. His roots in the community trace back to Robert Vela High School, where his journey began.
With a robust educational foundation, Rafael earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Texas State University in 2021. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Science (ScD) in Rehabilitation Sciences at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, with an expected graduation in early 2026.
Since November 2021, Rafael has been contributing as a Physical Therapist at South Texas Health System. Before this role, he served as a PRN Physical Therapist at Rio Grande Regional Hospital from September 2022 to August 2023, and earlier as a Pediatric Physical Therapist at Milestones Therapeutic Associates.
Beyond his clinical work, Rafael actively engages in academia and community service. He currently serves as a clinical instructor to DPT students from various schools which highlights his commitment to education. As a proud member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Texas Physical Therapy Association (TPTA), Rafael remains dedicated to both professional growth and community impact.
Recognized for his exceptional clinical performance, Rafael received the Outstanding Student in Clinical Performance award from Texas State University in 2021. Continuously enhancing his skills through ongoing education, he actively participates in community service initiatives, such as organizing free Physical Therapy Screenings and serving as a guest speaker on stroke education.
